ACHOOT:

Definitions:

1. short for "Ate Ruth" (meaning: big sister ruth). Our 3 year old nephew then hardly speaks word which is more than 2 syllables. He shortened “Ate ruth” to "Achoot."
2. the sound my big brother Gary makes., when he reluctantly drives out air by force from his mouth and nose in a volatile, sporadic uncontrolled action predominantly a resultant from nasal mucous membrane irritation. In other words, when he has colds, it’s how he sneezes. Say. ......AH—CHOOT..! (loudly)

THINGS I MISS ABOUT ACHOOT.

1. her cooking. these are my favorite:
a. binagoongang baboy
b. pansit canton with kikiam and tofu flavored with sweet-salty-sour sauce
c. grilled eggplant seasoned with vinegar, sugar, salt & pepper along with bagoong
d. oatmeal cookies
e. puto pao
f. blueberry cheesecake

2. Sundays with achoot:
a. CSI marathon
b. cheesy “love story” movies at the cinema
c. bumming around the house.
d. tea party at our vestibule
e. Sunday mass and eat out after

THINGS I HATE ABOUT ACHOOT:

1. running errands: she has an annoying way of asking favors. She wants that “whatever something” be done right away. No patience at all. We always fight about this and she always wins. I do what she desires…she makes me do things against my will. I couldn’t say “NO”.
2. the waiting game: she always brings me along every time she does:
a. SHOPPING: she loves buying undies. It takes time for her to decide. I wait for hours. And she buys them in dozens. Shoes. She buys 3 pairs every month.
b. HAIR REBOND. I leave her at the beauty parlor and do window shopping at the mall, read novels at the bookstore and when I get back, she is still undone.
3. She is too honest about what she thinks of me and the things I do. She is my best critic. No sugar coating on her words. Her way of motivating me is too straightforward. Strong words, frank and irksome. She listens to reasons but she gives the impression of being a Ms. Know- it- all. And oftentimes she is right, it’s so hard to argue with her.
4. when I look bad and terrible, she tells me right away, flat on my face. Funny but I look exactly like her. (Please notice the forehead)
5. she thinks my big brother is more good looking than I am. NO. She thinks my big brother is good looking and I am not. (again, I look exactly like her) .

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT ACHOOT:

1. she knows the things I like and buys them even if I don’t ask her to.
2. I’ve gone to several trips all expenses paid by her .Subic, Clark, Corregidor, Bohol and Bicol. (SFC days)
3. she believes in my talent. (public speaking) She trusts me and let me train her high school students (leadership training / creative writing workshop/ oral recitation :declamation/oration)
4. she thinks I write well.
5. she likes some of my photography.

I CAN SAY SO MANY THINGS ABOUT HER. I miss her, I hate her, I love her. One thing is sure though. No matter what happens, no one can take away her place in my heart. A lot of my friends envy me because of her. They want to have a sister just like mine. Caring and loving and intimidating. They are willing to “fit in my shoes”...so to speak. BUT I WONT LET THEM. Because I love my shoes. LaCoste , Chuck Taylor and Ralph Lauren.. cmon..!

My dear sister achoot… I miss you… I love you… I hate you because i won't be able to kiss you…

I wish you happiness, peace , good health and a glamorous life..

                                       HAPPY BIRTHDAY…!
i wish you all the best ...!

running

Saturday, March 12, 2011 2 comments

from a health magazine, i ran through an article about the benefits of running.
here it goes...

1.potential weight loss.
2.improved cardiovascular and respiratory health (reducing the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases),
3.improved cardiovascular fitness, reduced total blood cholesterol,
4.strengthening of bones (and potentially increased bone density), 5.possible strengthening of the immune system
6.improved self esteem and emotional state.
7.effectively slow or reverse the effects of aging.

My first running experience was really not easy. It was a 15k run. I put up with pain. My feet and legs endured agony. I had cramped and strained muscles. I also felt burning sensation on my chest plus the headache and back pain. In point of fact, every parts of my body complained. All were not in favor of my running activity. It was a really brute force. Nevertheless, I challenged myself. I didn’t give up. I never listened to my body’s complaints. After about an hour and a few minutes I reached the finished line.

this experience happened 3 years ago. since then i've been joining different runs...if my schedule is free.
